ABOUT US - GENETICS
The Punta Pacifica Center for Genetics, now has a modern cytogenetic laboratory and personnel with extensive experience in the use of diagnostic tools such as fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and a number of coloration techniques that allow for correct interpretation. The Punta Pacifica Center for Genetics, aside from providing chromosomic diagnosis, is prepared to provide advice and counseling through the expertise of Dr. Gladys Cossio of Gurrola, geneticist and pediatrician, and Dr. Geneva Gonzalez, Medical geneticist specializing in Cytogenetics / Gynecology & Obstetrics. The Punta Pacifica Center for Genetics is widely prepared to receive and process samples of peripheral blood, abortion material, Cordocentesis, bone marrow and of course, amniotic fluid for prenatal diagnosis, delivering results in a rapid and responsible way in 7 to 10 business days using classical cytogenetics and in 24 hours using techniques of molecular hybridization.
Amniocentesis is a drawing of a very small quantity of amniotic fluid between 14-16 weeks of gestation to enable diagnosis of prenatal genetic abnormalities and neural tube problems. At the Punta Pacifica Center for Genetics, we provide an adequate space, a safe and comfortable environment for patients who need the extraction of this type of sample and its subsequent study. The Punta Pacifica Center for Genetics is always looking to be at the forefront of the diagnostic techniques available and works in direct collaboration with the Center for Reproduction providing important services such as the pre-implantation diagnosis, considering that genetic alterations are a major cause of infertility and sterility and may be responsible for birth defects that are observed in newborns, present in 2.5% of infant mortality and 50% of spontaneous abortions in the first quarter; thus we can infer that pre-implantation diagnosis becomes more relevant and essential, whenever possible.
The pre-implantation genetic diagnosis is presented as a new field that, combined with assisted reproductive techniques, offers the ability to analyze the presence of chromosomal abnormalities and genetic markers in embryos before being transferred to the uterus and, therefore, before implantation is produced. The Punta Pacifica Center for Genetics team is willing to provide service, both internal and external to patients presenting family history, mothers with previous pregnancies with disorders and / or genetic abnormalities, recurrent pregnancy loss, infertility problems, exposure to teratogens, risk due to ethnicity, advanced maternal age, prenatal tests showing abnormalities and anomalies in ultrasound tests.
Our doors are open to provide an excellent service to our patients in conjunction with the highest standards of international quality and we welcome the cooperation of our colleagues in the interest of heightening the development of the medical profession in our country.
