Frozen Embryo Transfer

FROZEN EMBRYO TRANSFER

Embryo transfer

This step is performed on an outpatient basis. Requires no analgesia as it is painless. A speculum is inserted while on a gynecological position, in order to view the cervix. The embryos, which are immersed in a culture solution, are placed in a transfer catheter (long and thin sterile tube), which is gently guided through the cervix and it is placed in the uterine cavity.

By obtaining and transferring more than one oocyte and embryo there is the possibility of a multiple pregnancy. When these procedures are to take place you should talk to the professional and agree to the number of embryos transferred, as well as the desire to use cryopreservation as a measure to prevent future attempts and multiple pregnancies.

Post-transfer recommendations and follow-up:

It is recommended to rest after a transfer.

The patient will receive a hormonal medication (progesterone) until the pregnancy test results are confirmed positive. The same should be done about 12 days after the transfer, should the doctor deem it necessary.
