OVA (EGG) FREEZING THROUGH VITRIFICATION

Vitrification

Vitrification of human eggs has been shown to be a technique with many benefits and advantages both for women wishing to preserve their future fertility and motherhood, as it has the option to safeguard ova (eggs) for more mature women, as it guarantees healthy ova of her own.
The clinics and centers for assisted reproduction offer an alternative to their patients under treatment through the ability to vitrify eggs should they be diagnosed with the ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), subsequently having to cryopreserve embryos. This would avoid the ethical, moral and legal dilemmas involved in the cryopreservation of the same.

Another of the applications of vitrification is to allow the creation of an egg donation program for patients with infertility due to premature ovarian failure, or for patients who are going to be submitted to some type of treatment where there may be a danger or risking of loosing ovarian function.

The vitrification technique is a fairly simple process, in which there is a solution solidifies when it is cooled at high speeds thus forming a glassy state, not due crystallization, but by extreme elevation of speed; it is a simple process that requires less processing time and has proven to be safer and more effective than cryopreservation by slow curve.

At the Punta Pacifica Reproductive Center we offer the egg donation program; young women who participate in this program have to go through a very thorough selection where the following tests are performed: Donor’s confidential questionnaire and written consent. Gynecological tests, Pap smears, blood tests to determine chromosome karyotype, HIV testing, Anti HBc, HBsAg, VDRL, hemoglobin electrophoresis, Ig Cytomegalovirus M, IgG, Comprehensive Hematology, blood typing and genetic counseling and consultation.
