As a preventive measure for men who can not go to our lab or collect the sample on the same day that the semen would be used for an assisted reproduction treatment.
Sperm donors:
At the beginning of the program, donors have to be tested for HIV, hepatitis antibodies and other sexually transmitted diseases for intervals of 3-6 months. The samples are kept in quarantined for at least 180 days, and are not admitted in until the tests results are negative on at least two occasions. Donor samples remain in the program for at least 6 months before they are available to patients.
